A small bit of information (always under construction):
The Dark Crystal: A film set in a mythical land, populated with creatures that are unlike most things on earth, The Dark Crystal is the first film ever made entirely with puppets. The production was a massive undertaking, which started in the opposite manner than most, production design was begun before a story was even conceived. The story grew from the rich world created by Froud and Henson, and the story of a Gelfling's quest to heal the dark crystal came after.
Jim Henson: Most famous for creating The Muppets, Henson was an accomplished puppetier. He did many darker stories, but few became as famous as his more comedic works. The Dark Crystal was a pet project of his, and it's lackluster performance in the box office dissapointed him, so he went on to create a lighter version of the same idea, partnering with the same people, The Labyrinth.
Frank Oz: Frank Oz, best known as the muppet performer behind Miss Piggy and Grover, directed The Dark Crystal. He is also known for his role as Yoda in the Star Wars films, and as the director of In and Out among others.
Brian and Wendy Froud: Brian Froud was a famous illustrator and artist in England before he was approached to be the conceptual designer for The Dark Crystal. The world he created was then brought to life by Henson and Company, with Wendy Froud working as a sculptor in the film, primarily on the gelflings.
The Creature Shop: When The Dark Crystal was made, the Creature Shop did not exist, but it would not be the force it is today without this film. The Creature Shop was built upon the puppetiers, designers, sculptures, and performers which worked on the film. The Dark Crystal is often credited as their first film.
The Crystal Shard: The title of this site is rather self explanatory. In order to heal the crystal, Jen must first recover the shard which was lost when the crystal cracked many years ago. This is all he knows of his quest when he begins.
